The 14 allergens

Venues must be able to tell guests which of the 14 allergens are in the food they serve. The FSA recommends written allergen information, backed by a conversation. Platick helps you follow FSA guidance; it doesn't replace checking the rules that apply to your business.

How Platick handles them

One screen to check. One QR code for guests.

  1. The dish-checking screen on a desktop: the whole dinner menu down the left, and Prawn cocktail open with its 14 allergens, the AI's suggestions marked and an I've checked all 14 button

    One row per allergen

The checking screen has one row for each of the 14 allergens: Off, Contains or May contain.

  2. The dish-checking screen on a phone: Prawn cocktail with its 14 allergens set to Off, Contains or May contain, and an I've checked all 14 button

    AI suggests, you confirm

Platick's AI suggests allergens, and a person on your team confirms each dish with "I've checked all 14".

  3. A guest's phone showing an allergen menu with eggs and peanuts ticked and the dishes that declare them marked

    Guests tick what they avoid

Guests tick what they avoid and see which dishes declare it.

Menus change. The folder doesn't.

A recipe changes, a supplier swaps a sauce, a new chef starts. Who updated the allergen matrix? Who checked it?

Questions

What are the 14 allergens?

The 14 allergens are Celery, Cereals containing gluten, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Tree nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Soya and Sulphur dioxide and sulphites.

What does "May contain" mean on Platick?

Your team marks May contain when a dish could contain an allergen. Guests see it on the dish, and a dish marked May contain is never shown as None declared.

What does "None declared" mean?

The venue hasn't marked the dish with any of the allergens the guest ticked. Always tell staff about your allergy before you order.

How long does setup take?

About 20 minutes for a typical menu of about 40 dishes, checked in one sitting with the AI's suggestions. Bigger menus take longer. We'll set up your first menu for you. Free. Start your free trial and add your payment details, then send us your menu within the first 7 days. We'll load it in. You check and confirm the allergens. One first menu per business.

Is AI deciding my allergens?

No. It suggests; your team checks all 14 for every dish and confirms.

Who is responsible for the allergen information?

Your venue. Your team checks and confirms every dish; Platick shows what you confirm.

Do guests need an app?

No. They scan the QR code with their phone camera.

Can guests read it in their own language?

Yes. The allergen menu works in 9 languages, and guests choose theirs.

Can I print an allergen matrix with all 14?

Yes. QR & print makes an allergen matrix PDF for one menu or all menus, with a column for each of the 14 allergens.
